"It was imprudent of us, in the first place, to become authors. We could have become something regular, but we managed not to.
We were lucky, but we were also determined." Roy Blount Jr

"I don’t change the facts to enhance the drama. I think of it the other way round, the drama has got to fit the facts,
and it’s your job as a writer to find the shape in real life."
Hilary Mantel

Time Away

Even though moving day is fast approaching, I'm attending the Historical Novel Society conference in St. Petersburg, FL. We've had rainy, cool weather in New Hampshire lately, so I'm very much aware of the heat and humidity.

As soon as I settled into my hotel, I did a walkabout...there's a collection of Dale Chihuly glassworks close by. The colour and shapes are amazing. I've seen his works and installations in many places, but these are especially fine.

Many developments on the home front/s. Renovations are underway at the new house, and taking longer than anticipated. (As always seems to happen with home improvement projects.) Packing up continues at the Lodge...the movers arrive on Tuesday. Within a few days of putting the house on the market, we received an offer for purchase--and accepted it. The roses are beginning their blooming spectacle. I've planted 17 or so roses in newly constructed raised beds at the new house, along with many favourite perennials. I've positioned my stone statues in the back garden, which is pleasant and shady much of the day

Ruth and Jewel are somewhat bemused by the towers of boxes at the Lodge, and the general disarray. They have no inkling of the massive change that's about to occur. They will go to their kennel the day before the move (the day I return from FL). I won't be seeing them again until I pick them up--probably Wednesday morning--and take them to their/our new residence. That neighbourhood is chock-full of dogs. I predict that Ruth, the better socialised of the two, will make many friends. Jewel will resent the presence of other canines.

We hope for a smooth transition, for the two-legged and the four-legged creatures!

The Purchase

We bought this rose bush today.

It comes with a house attached. Which I've already furnished, to this extent.

A very full and happy day. Weary. Thankful. Tomorrow will be busy, too. Though not as momentous.
