"It was imprudent of us, in the first place, to become authors. We could have become something regular, but we managed not to.
We were lucky, but we were also determined." Roy Blount Jr

"I don’t change the facts to enhance the drama. I think of it the other way round, the drama has got to fit the facts,
and it’s your job as a writer to find the shape in real life."
Hilary Mantel

The Month that Was...or Wasn't!

I do still exist. This is a "sefie" taken yesterday with my laptop camera, right before a diocesan meeting via Skype. (The dogs and I were at the lake.)

Yes, I let a full month pass without any blogging. Apart from a few brief stays at the lake cottage, I've mostly been nesting and gardening and decorating and reading new fiction and taking advantage of my new location to become integrated into my new lifestyle. I felt that the activity associated with the process was of scant interest to anyone but me, the Chap, my family and close friends. A writing project also kept me busy.

The (incessant) rains of July and early August resulted in a bounty of roses in beds that are only 8 weeks old.

And other flowers are doing nicely as well.

The girls enjoy their new surroundings.

And though this house isn't Lodge-like in the same way as the previous one, we've installed all the Lodge-y paraphernalia.

I admit to spending a great deal of time watching and photographing the birds who flock to my feeders. (The male cardinal is eating as I type this!)

Inside the house, decorating has been a priority. Hanging art....

...and the chandelier (our electrician took care of that installation!)

And readying the guest quarters for the arrival of our first visitor from afar!

Our weekend routine now includes a trip to the Concord Farmers' Market, which is very close to home and right beside the State Capitol building where I so proudly served during my 2 terms in the Legislature.

Acorns are dropping from the oaks at the edge of our property. Here and there around town and in the countryside, maple branches begin to show colour. Our house is surrounded by giant maple trees, there are more in the woods across the street. Neighbours tell us the area is gorgeous in autumn, and I can well believe it.

I probably won't let so much time pass before the next installment. I didn't mean to get out of the blogging habit. I think the statute of limitations on using "transition" as my excuse is about to run out!
