"It was imprudent of us, in the first place, to become authors. We could have become something regular, but we managed not to.
We were lucky, but we were also determined." Roy Blount Jr

"I don’t change the facts to enhance the drama. I think of it the other way round, the drama has got to fit the facts,
and it’s your job as a writer to find the shape in real life."
Hilary Mantel

How dogs enjoy a holiday weekend

I believe it was comedian Steven Wright, who specialises in the existential one-liner joke, who posed the question, "What do dogs do on their day off?"

As he surely knows, dogs have no concept of a day off. But here's how mine spent the holiday weekend....

Lola and Ruth are ready for good times.

Ruth tries to entice Lola into play.

Lola prefers to watch.

Ruth checks out the arrangements of lily-of-the-valley in the upstairs sitting room.

Ruth's energy is not limitless. She collapses at my feet, sound asleep--

as I enjoy a nice, cold caipirinha, a perfect beverage for a hot day!
