"It was imprudent of us, in the first place, to become authors. We could have become something regular, but we managed not to.
We were lucky, but we were also determined." Roy Blount Jr

"I don’t change the facts to enhance the drama. I think of it the other way round, the drama has got to fit the facts,
and it’s your job as a writer to find the shape in real life."
Hilary Mantel

How I spent my weekend

On Saturday and Sunday, I campaigned in towns in my legislative district.

Doing candidate visibility is fun--on Saturday three incumbent reps and four of our supporters were stretched along the sidewalk of a friend's house, conveniently located on a major state highway at an intersection with stoplights. Lots of drivers waved and honked their horns at us. Only one guy gave us the finger, not bad considering how much traffic there was.

We repeated the activity yesterday, after church.

On both days we even had a canine supporter with us, Sadie the Border Collie.

During our All Saints/All Souls church service, it was hard to concentrate on our lessons and prayers because of the delicious aroma of baking rising from the Undercroft. Our Sunday School made Shropshire Soul Cakes. The congregation devoured them during coffee hour!

Last night the Chap and I attended a dinner party a couple of towns away with a large group of fellow parishioners. Wonderful food, delicious wine, welcoming pets (a corgi and a cat), and a lot of pre-election enthusiasm!

This promises to be a crazy busy week. Because, incredibly, a whole lot more is happening in my life than tomorrow's Election Day activities.... So much planning, so much preparation--for meetings, for appointments, for a convention, and for imminent travels.
