"It was imprudent of us, in the first place, to become authors. We could have become something regular, but we managed not to.
We were lucky, but we were also determined." Roy Blount Jr

"I don’t change the facts to enhance the drama. I think of it the other way round, the drama has got to fit the facts,
and it’s your job as a writer to find the shape in real life."
Hilary Mantel

Ice In

This weekend, on our littke lake, the ice came in.

Saturday's high might have been 12 degrees. It was extremely windy, so the wind chill factor doesn't bear thinking of. It's a balmy 24 today, no breeze.

Lola is pretty sure she's got thick enough fur for a long, cold winter.

The young dogs enjoyed playing in the thick dusting of snow we woke to yesterday.

Today, Jewel closes her eyes and wishes for a big snow.

Ruth curls up on the sofa and dreams of huge drifts.

Don't worry, girls--your snowiest dreams and wishes are about to come true!
