"It was imprudent of us, in the first place, to become authors. We could have become something regular, but we managed not to.
We were lucky, but we were also determined." Roy Blount Jr

"I don’t change the facts to enhance the drama. I think of it the other way round, the drama has got to fit the facts,
and it’s your job as a writer to find the shape in real life."
Hilary Mantel

Monday in Montreal

There's a flower market near our hotel, so these were the first photo I shot this morning as we emerged.

We walked over to Vieux Montreal to a favourite quiet spot, the garden at the Chateau de Ramezay.

The flowers were very much in bloom.

Clematis

Coneflowers

And the potager was very productive!

Grands choux

Aubergine

Pommes en espalier

Cooling my hand in the fountain.

I let Sparkle out for some exercise.

Round the corner we visited the gallery of Christian Bergeron.

And we crossed over to wander through the market.

Right size. Not sure about the colour.

It was lunchtime. Instead of returning to a place where we'd dined previously, we tried a new one. Here's the menu that won us over.

Sparkle looks for lizard food. Failing to find it, she suggests moules et frites--which we would've chosen any way.

Delicious bread.

We always have these when we're in Montreal.

We strolled up towards the Hotel de Ville.

After a stop at the supermarket and the SAQ (liquor, wine, beer), we returned to our hotel. We speculate about the cones on top. Can you request a "cone room"? Are they set aside for Coneheads?

Exhausted from her exertions, Sparkle takes a nap.
