"It was imprudent of us, in the first place, to become authors. We could have become something regular, but we managed not to.
We were lucky, but we were also determined." Roy Blount Jr

"I don’t change the facts to enhance the drama. I think of it the other way round, the drama has got to fit the facts,
and it’s your job as a writer to find the shape in real life."
Hilary Mantel

The First Rose

The rose season opened this morning when Double Blush Burnet, a Scotch rose and always the first to blossom, opened up her first flower.

I've just learned of a dear friend's death, a fellow author who was a great inspiration at the outset of my career. Not unexpected news, but still a huge loss. The last gift I had from her was a book about roses.

My final gift to her--the picture above.
